VIDEO // President visits Kyiv on Ukraine’s Independence Day: Moldova lives in peace thanks to courage of Ukrainian people

President Maia Sandu is paying a visit to Kyiv today, where she is taking part in the celebration of 35 years of Ukraine’s independence. During this visit, the head of state will award President Volodymyr Zelensky the Order of the Republic, as a sign of gratitude for the courage of the Ukrainian people and their contribution to defending peace and freedom in Europe.

Maia Sandu stressed that on this day she is in Kyiv to stand together with the Ukrainian people.

“Today, Ukraine celebrates 35 years of independence. In three days, the Republic of Moldova will mark its own anniversary. I am in Kyiv to be alongside the Ukrainian people. For four and a half years, Ukrainians have been defending their country and, through their courage, they are defending peace across the entire continent. Moldova lives in peace also thanks to this courage,” the official said.

The head of state noted that awarding the Order of the Republic to President Volodymyr Zelensky is a sign of recognition of his contribution to defending peace and freedom on the European continent.

“Today I have the honor to award the Order of the Republic to President Volodymyr Zelensky, for his outstanding contribution to defending peace and freedom on the European continent and as a sign of the Moldovan people’s gratitude for the courage of the Ukrainian people. Happy Independence Day, Ukraine! We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Slava Ukraini!” Maia Sandu said.

Ukraine is marking today the 35th anniversary of the proclamation of its Independence, in the context of the war launched by the Russian Federation. On this day, in Kyiv as well as in other cities across Ukraine, the heroes who fell in the war are commemorated. Also, European leaders are gathering today in the Ukrainian capital to reconfirm their support for the Ukrainian people.
