Ana Racu elected vice-chair of UN Committee Against Torture

Ana Racu has been elected vice-chair of the UN Committee against Torture. Her candidacy was supported by the unanimous vote of the committee members.

She has approximately 25 years of professional experience and has been involved in monitoring places of detention, preventing violence and reforming the penitentiary system, as well as promoting alternatives to detention, both at the national and international level.

Ana Racu has been a member of the UN Committee against Torture since 2016 and previously represented Moldova in the Council of Europe's Committee for the Prevention of Torture.

The UN Committee against Torture is composed of 10 independent experts and is responsible for monitoring how states comply with the Convention against Torture.
