Citizens abroad can access more types of documents online
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially launched the eConsulat platform, which will allow Moldovan citizens abroad to access various types of documents online. The service is initially available at diplomatic missions in Ukraine, Canada, Greece, Cyprus, the United Arab Emirates, Spain, Romania, Turkey and the USA.
Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi said that after submitting the request, individuals will be able to track the status of their application in real time.
“I am pleased to share news that provides real support for all citizens abroad. The ministry is launching the e-Consulat platform, a modern digital solution designed for those living and working abroad, to access consular services more easily, faster and more securely. With e-Consulat, there's no need to make repeated trips to the embassy or consulate. Many services can be requested online, wherever you are. Additionally, when your physical presence is required, visits can be scheduled in advance, straightforwardly, and without wasting time,” Mihai Popșoi said.
The official mentioned that this platform brings a significant change for diaspora citizens - less time wasted, reduced costs and increased transparency.
Thus, the eConsulat platform digitalizes and automates consular processes, reducing processing time, eliminating errors, and facilitating citizen interaction with public services. It offers secure online access to consular services, regardless of the user's location, and allows transparent tracking of request status.
The digitalized services (with electronic signature) available through eConsulat include travel documents, criminal records, requests for documents and certificates from Moldova. Additionally, partially digitalized services requiring physical presence at the mission include legalization, power of attorney, notarial acts, signature legalization. Citizens without an electronic signature can create an account on the platform and request partially digitalized services by scheduling visits in advance.
During the pilot phase, the platform is available at the following diplomatic missions: Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Ukraine, Canada, Greece, Cyprus, United Arab Emirates; Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Spain and General Consulate in Barcelona; Permanent Representation of the Republic of Moldova to the UN in Geneva; General Consulate in Iași and Istanbul; General Consulate in Sacramento (USA).
E-Consulat offers several benefits for citizens and administration, including: quick and simplified access to online consular services, available 24/7; reduced waiting time and administrative costs; elimination of repeated trips to diplomatic missions; automatic processing and digital verification of data; transparency over the status of requests.
The platform was developed by the Electronic Governance Agency, in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and with the support of the World Bank Group. It is interconnected with the governmental digital infrastructure, representing an important step towards an efficient and transparent digital state, in line with Moldova's Digital Transformation Strategy.
