Moldova's Superior Council of Magistracy condemns violence in courts, calls for urgent measures of protection for magistrates

The Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) firmly condemns the attack that occurred at the headquarters of the Chisinau Court on August 22, 2025, where a magistrate was assaulted by a man with a gas wrench.

The CSM announced that necessary measures had been taken to mitigate the immediate consequences and underscored the need to strengthen the security of law courts.

The institution reiterates the importance of organizing and effectively operating the judicial police, improving the courts’ infrastructure, ensuring controlled access to court premises.

In this regard, CSM reminds that, according to the Constitution, courts have police services at their disposal.

In early last July, at a joint meeting with the Ministry of Justice, Interior Ministry (MAI), General Police Inspectorate (IGP) and the Chisinau Court, an agreement was reached to restore the Judicial Police Service at MAI, a measure under   implementation at present.

At the same time, CSM specifies that recently, surveillance cameras have been set at the Chisinau Court, and metal detectors are to be installed at the entrance, as part of a unified access system.

CSM expressed solidarity with the assaulted magistrate and reiterated its commitment to contribute to creating a safe environment for the administration of justice.
