Modern regional hospital to be built in south Moldova city

The southern region of Moldova will have a modern regional hospital, that will serve about 300,000 citizens. The foreign policy and European integration commission of the parliament has approved the advisory opinion for initiating negotiations with the European Investment Bank (EIB), in order to sign a financing contract for the Regional Hospitals of Moldova project.

Thus, Moldova is set to benefit from a loan worth 101 million euros, funds due to be allocated for the construction of the Cahul-based Regional Hospital, which will meet the needs of the population from the districts of Cahul, Comrat, Leova, Ceadar-Lunga, Taraclia, Cantemir and Vulcanesti.

The new hospital will be built on the site of the current Cahul district hospital, covering an area of over 50,000 square metres. It will include a modern operating block with eight operation rooms, facilities for interventional radiology, cardiac catheterization and advanced endoscopy procedures.

At the same time, the emergency unit will be of tertiary level and will have a hybrid room for complex interventions.

The hospital will provide medical services in multiple fields, including cardiology, cardiac surgery, neurology, neurosurgery and minimally invasive surgical interventions. Also, there are plans to establish an oncology center, which will significantly enhance the access to cancer treatments for residents of the region.

The construction works are set to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026 and the   project is estimated to be completed in July 2030.

Simultaneously, the construction project for the Regional Hospital of Balti is also underway, with a budget of 108 million euros, as part of the same national initiative to modernize medical infrastructure.
