Moldova's Medical University to launch study programme – dental nursing
The Faculty of Dentistry of the Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF) this year will launch a three-year bachelor’s degree programme in Dental Nursing. The new programme focuses on the professional training of dental nurses.
Future students will be admitted on the basis of a baccalaureate diploma or an equivalent educational document, a professional studies diploma, or a higher education diploma. Instruction will be carried out in Romanian.
Over the three years, students will develop professional competences in independently diagnosing oral conditions, managing dental instruments and materials, using dental imaging equipment and dental software. They will also learn to correctly perform procedures for the prevention and control of infections associated with healthcare, to analyze the quality of the care provided, to independently initiate immediate life-support measures and apply interventions in dental emergencies, to provide oral health education at individual and community level and within the care team, as well as to handle document management and medical data administration.
Graduates with a bachelor’s degree in Dental Nursing will be able to work in public or private dental offices and clinics as dental nurses. They may also hold coordinating positions, such as head nurse, sterilization officer, or practice manager and will have the opportunity to continue their higher education at the master’s level.
They will also be able to develop professionally through continuing medical education courses in endodontics, dentoalveolar surgery, orthodontics, implantology, prosthodontics and other health-related fields. Likewise, students will have various opportunities to participate in academic mobility programmes at partner institutions abroad.
