Moldovan citizens to have free of charge access to 12 TV channels in national audiovisual space

Moldova’s citizens, including the ones from the Transnistrian region, will be able to watch, in continuation, the public TV channels Moldova 1 and Moldova 2, as well as another ten channels of the national audiovisual space without additional costs.

The cabinet of ministers today approved a legislative proposal concerning the amendment of legal provisions on the ensuring of residents’ access to the TV programmes of the national audiovisual space.

„Our belief is that no person should be deprived of access to essential information and national TV programmes. This measure is vital, especially for the vulnerable people from the rural environment, who need access to information, a qualitative, objective informing, for whom the free of charge digital television is the principal or even the only correct source of information,’’ Deputy PM Dumitru Alaiba said at the cabinet meeting.

Presently, the state enterprise „Radiocomunicații” (Radio communications) ensures the work of the A National Multiplex – a network which allows the reception for free of those 12 TV stations. This network covers about 99 per cent of the population and is essential, especially for the households who do not afford a TV subscription against payment or have no access to TV networks against payment.

The draft is to be submitted to parliament for consideration and approval.
