Government and ministry employees, ambassadors, villagers from Mihailovca, residents of Cimișlia and other volunteers planted 110,000 saplings today on a total area of 27 hectares. The event marked the start of the national reforestation campaign Autumn 2025.

Minister of Environment Gheorghe Hajder thanked the participants for their involvement and for the fact that more and more citizens are getting involved in reforestation.

'Currently, Moldova has only 11% of its area covered by forests, while the average in Europe exceeds 35%. We have a lot of work to do and catching up, but I am convinced that together we can change this reality. I am pleased to see that, with each planting action, more and more people choose to join the Forest Generation, and confidence in the Reforestation Program grows with each planting action,' stated Gheorghe Hajder.

The minister also emphasized the importance of shared responsibility in expanding forested areas and the role of each generation.

'What we are doing today is not just a planting activity, but a commitment to the present and, even more so, to future generations. We all love forests and outdoor outings, but let's not forget that these forests were planted by our grandparents and great-grandparents. Thus, it's our duty to do the same, to leave forests behind us,' said Gheorghe Hajder.

Also today, the Ministry of Environment, jointly with Moldsilva Agency organized planting activities in every district, so that every citizen can plant a forest as close to home or their native district as possible.

The reforestation campaign 'Autumn 2025' is part of the national reforestation program Forest Generation, launched at the initiative of President Maia Sandu, through which 145,000 hectares of forest will be planted by 2032. In the first two years since the program was launched, over 16,000 hectares have been reforested, and by the end of this year, it will reach 20,000 hectares.
