VIDEO // Swedish Defence Minister visits Chișinău

The Republic of Moldova and Sweden will strengthen their cooperation in the field of defence through military training, the development of defence capabilities, including air defence, and participation in joint courses and military exercises. The priority areas were established today by acting Minister of Defence Anatolie Nosatîi during a meeting with his Swedish counterpart, Pål Jonson, in Chișinău.

The two officials discussed the security situation in the region, the impact of the war in Ukraine on the development path of the Republic of Moldova, hybrid threats, and the efforts undertaken to strengthen institutional resilience. Another topic was bilateral cooperation in the field of defence and the progress achieved in recent years.

Nosatîi appreciated Sweden’s openness and support in the process of the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the European Union, the advancement of democratic reforms, as well as the strengthening of Moldova’s defence capabilities.

“Since August 2024, when we signed the bilateral document of intent, our partnership has become stronger, because we share the same values for peace and stability. We continue to move forward in creating a modern, well-equipped army, capable of fulfilling its constitutional missions, and we are not alone on this path. This visit demonstrates that the Kingdom of Sweden continues to support us in achieving our sectoral objectives, through its extensive experience in transforming the defence sector and deterring hybrid threats,” said Anatolie Nosatîi.

During the discussions, the officials also set out to identify new opportunities within EU and NATO assistance platforms, aimed at accelerating the modernization process, in line with international commitments and partnerships.
