Moldova promotes tourism potential in China
The Republic of Moldova is intensifying its efforts to promote its tourism potential on the Chinese market, and one of its strategic objectives is to have the country included on the list of recommended destinations for Chinese tourists. Moldova’s Ambassador to China Petru Frunze said in an interview with MOLDPRES that such a decision would open new opportunities for promotion through major travel agencies and specialized platforms in China.
Petru Frunze emphasized that attracting Chinese tourists to the Republic of Moldova is one of the priorities of our country’s Embassy in Beijing. Opportunities to strengthen cooperation in this field were also discussed during the visit of Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi to China, when talks were held with representatives of China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism about ways to enhance cooperation in this sector.
“An important objective is the inclusion of the Republic of Moldova on the list of recommended destinations for Chinese tourists, which would facilitate the promotion of our country through major travel agencies and specialized platforms in China,” said Petru Frunze.
In this context, the Embassy is developing an active dialogue with tour operators and companies in the sector to promote the Republic of Moldova as an authentic destination with a rich cultural heritage, unique traditions, renowned wineries and hospitable people, the official stressed.
“We aim to present tourism offers tailored to the interests of Chinese visitors, with a focus on cultural, gastronomic and wine tourism,” the Ambassador underlined.
The authorities are also examining possibilities for promoting integrated tourism packages and organizing familiarization visits for representatives of Chinese travel agencies, so that they can directly experience the tourism potential of the Republic of Moldova.“We are convinced that through close cooperation between state institutions, the business community and partners in China, the Republic of Moldova can become an increasingly visible and attractive destination for Chinese tourists, thus contributing to economic development and to strengthening ties between the citizens of both countries,” concluded Petru Frunze.
Tourism is one of the sectors with significant development potential in the Republic of Moldova, being closely linked both to the national economy and to the promotion of the country’s image abroad. In recent years, the authorities have sought to capitalize on cultural, wine and rural heritage as key points of attraction for visitors.
According to data from the National Statistics Bureau, in 2025 tourist accommodations in the Republic of Moldova received over half a million visitors, 10.7% more than in 2024, and more than half of them were foreign tourists. The largest increases were recorded in tourist and agritourism guesthouses, while Chișinău remains the main destination for visitors.
The Republic of Moldova ranks third among the most affordable European countries for short-term tourist accommodation, according to a new international study based on AirDNA data and reported by Euronews English.
