PM, on capital's City Day, says almost five billion lei allocated to Chisinau in 2026

Almost five billion lei will be allocated to the Chisinau municipality in 2026 for educational institutions, road infrastructure, projects in the suburbs and other investments. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has made statements to this effect in a message published on the occasion of the capital's City Day.

According to the PM, more than four billion lei has been allocated for schools, kindergartens and other educational institutions. Another approximately 370 million lei is earmarked for roads’ infrastructure, while around 290 million lei will be used for courtyards, access roads, sewerage systems and projects in the suburbs.

The prime minister said that investments in healthcare made over the past five years had reached approximately 1.6 billion lei. The medical institutions that received funding include the Institute of Emergency Medicine, which was allocated more than 430 million lei; the Oncology Institute, with over 270 million lei; as well as the Mother and Child Institute and the Republican Clinical Hospital, for which combined investments reached about 360 million lei.

Vasile Tofan noted that the authorities were working on major infrastructure projects, including the capital's ring road, bridges and overpasses, nurseries, the modernization of schools and the development of infrastructure in the suburbs.

The PM stressed that, although the municipality of Chisinau is administered by local public authorities, the development of the capital is a shared responsibility.

“For Moldova, it is the main engine of the economy. (...) Chisinau is administered locally, but its development is a shared responsibility. When Chisinau grows, Moldova grows too,” the prime minister said.

In his message, Vasile Tofan also emphasized his personal connection to the city, where he grew up and lived in more areas, noting that Chisinau is home to him. At the end, the prime minister wished residents a “Happy City Day.”
