VIDEO // Government proposes replacing 32 districts with three regions: north, center and south

UPDATE // Secretary General of the Government Alexei Buzu announced that the Northern Region will comprise 11 districts, with headquarters in Balti. Balti will be a separate administrative unit. The Central Region will comprise 13 districts, with administrative headquarters in Chisinau; Chisinau municipality will not be part of the Central Region. The Southern Region will comprise 7 districts, with headquarters in Cahul.

 

UPDATE // The Government proposes replacing Moldova’s 32 districts with three regions: north, center and south. The municipalities of Chisinau and Balti will retain their special status. The same applies to the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia. Taraclia will be reorganized as a second-level municipality.

 

The Government is presenting the concept of the reform of public administration at the district level today in Chisinau. District presidents and mayors of district centers are attending the meeting. The document is expected to establish the number of future districts, the powers of second-tier local public administration, the necessary costs, and the new administrative map of the Republic of Moldova.
