VIDEO // European Commissioner for Environment, message of support during her first visit to Chișinău

The chapter on the environment is a very important one in the process of accession to the European Union. It concerns the adoption of the necessary legislation, the strengthening of implementation capacity, as well as ensuring financing so that citizens can feel the benefits. The message was delivered today in Chișinău by European Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy Jessika Roswall, who is on her first visit to our country.

In the morning, the European official took part in the opening of the first edition of the “Green Finance and Investment Forum Moldova 2026”, dedicated to accelerating the transition to a green, competitive and resource-efficient economy.

Later, the European Commissioner had scheduled meetings with President Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, and Minister of Environment Gheorghe Hajder.

“I am very glad to be in Chișinău. I have just taken part in a conference dedicated to green finance. Next, I will meet with President Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, and Minister of Environment Gheorghe Hajder. We will discuss the process of accession to the European Union. Of course, the environment chapter is very important. It is about adopting the necessary legislation, strengthening implementation capacity, and ensuring financing. These aspects are not important only for complying with European Union legislation. They are important for people. We are talking about citizens’ health, competitiveness, job creation, and access to clean water and clean air. I am very happy to be here and I look forward to the discussions we will have throughout the day,” said Jessika Roswall.

Shortly afterwards, the Delegation of the European Union to Chișinău announced that Jessika Roswall met with President Maia Sandu. The discussions focused on environmental protection, sustainable water resource management, climate change resilience and the reforms bringing the Republic of Moldova closer to European Union standards.

“For the Republic of Moldova, this means access to European environmental data, better evidence-based public policies, cooperation among experts and better planning of green investments – from air quality and climate change adaptation to the circular economy,” the EU Delegation stated.

On the second day of the visit, Tuesday, June 30, the Commissioner will travel to the locality of Căpriana, where she will visit the wastewater treatment plant, the new sewerage network and the Căpriana Monastery, which is connected to this network.

This is the first visit to our country by the European Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy, Jessika Roswall.
