VIDEO // Moldova's state institutions mobilized for quick interventions amid severe weather conditions
State institutions are mobilized to quickly intervene in the context of the severe weather conditions forecast for the coming period. Around 2,400 Interior Ministry (MAI) employees are prepared to respond promptly to citizens’ requests. At the same time, about 240 road workers with approximately 460 special vehicles will operate to ensure safe traffic on the country’s roads, while the Energy Ministry and enterprises in the sector are on duty for rapid interventions, if necessary.
Thus, the MAI announced that it would ensure intervention capacity nationally, given the expected adverse weather conditions, with increased risks for road traffic and citizens’ safety.
Secretary of State of the Interior Ministry Alexandru Bejan said that around 2,400 employees from the Police, Carabineers, Border Police and firefighters would be ready to intervene both in reported situations and at the requests of other authorities.
“We recommend that, for the immediate upcoming period, you limit travel. When in road traffic, vehicles must be properly equipped and maximum caution is needed when performing maneuvers. We ask citizens who are on the move to exercise utmost caution when crossing streets. In case of emergency, do not hesitate to call the emergency number 112,” the official emphasized.
At the same time, the Energy Ministry and sector enterprises informed that they were prepared to intervene promptly in any location of Moldova.
“Moldelectrica, Premier Energy and RED-Nord will intervene in any emergency situation, in any corner of the country. In case of emergency, the first institutions to be reconnected are hospitals, health centers and institutions that ensure public order. If you identify wires that have fallen to the ground or are hanging suspiciously, inform RED-Nord or Premier Energy immediately. In case of emergencies, call 112,” said Secretary General of Energy Ministry Andrei Gritco.
At the same time, about 240 road workers and approximately 460 special vehicles are mobilized on the country’s routes, ready to intervene to ensure traffic safety.
“The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development and the State Roads’ Administration are prepared to intervene on public roads throughout the country. Since November, a stock of approximately 12,500 tons of anti-skid material has been established. Around 240 road workers and approximately 460 special vehicles are mobilized. We urge drivers to drive carefully, adapt their speed to road conditions, avoid risky maneuvers and inform themselves in advance about the state of the routes,” said Nicolai Mindra, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development.
Meteorologists have issued a Yellow Code warning for black ice and icy roads for February 4-6. Thus, air temperatures close to 0 degrees Celsius, combined with rain or snow, favor the formation of black ice and an icy surface on the roadway.
