Sportspeople from both banks of Prut river to participate in 2025 Rubicon Ultramarathon, connecting capitals of Romania, Moldova
Sportspeople from both banks of the Prut river will participate in the 2025 Rubicon Ultramarathon, which will connect the capitals of Romania and Moldova along a 482-kilometer route. The event will take place on February 28- March 2, 2025.
The route is divided into 46 stages, each ranging from 6 to 15 km, and crosses 10 regions in both countries. The race will start in Bucharest, and the finish line will be in Chisinau.
Participants can choose to run one or multiple stages, depending on their personal goals and physical preparation. For each stage completed in a county or district, runners receive a medal with the emblem of the respective region. Those who reach a distance of 100 km receive an additional medal with the 'Rubicon' emblem.
Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education and Research Sergiu Gurin said that the Rubicon Ultramarathon unites performance sportspeople from both sides of Prut and was a proof of resilience, team spirit and the desire to surpass personal limits.
‘’By participating in this competition, runners not only test their strength and endurance, but also actively contribute to strengthening the ties between Romania and Moldova, both in sports and culture,’’ said Sergiu Gurin.
The sporting event is organized by the Ministry of Education and Research. in partnership with the Public Association Sports Club 'SPORTER' from Moldova and the Ministry of Education and Research and the National Sports Agency from Romania.
The first edition of the Rubicon Ultramarathon, which took place last year, brought together over 200 runners at the start. The organization of the ultramarathon is the result of a sports cooperation agreement between Romania and Moldova.
