Book about traditional art launched at library from Moldova's capital
Chisinau, 07 February /MOLDPRES/ – An album titled: Traditional Art in Moldova, signed by Varvara Buzila, PhD in philology, was released on 06 February at a bookstore in the centre of Chisinau municipality.
The bilingual issue in the Romanian and English languages contains over 260 pages and includes eight chapters: Folk craftsmen and time value axis, Interior of house – Space of hand made objects, Objects made of vegetable fibers, Indoor fabrics, Folk festive costume, Martisoarele – Spring symbols, Easter eggs and Mask and masked man.
During the event, Varvara Buzila mentioned that this work was written for all those which lost touch with the village, traditions, world of the objects that formed us, motivated us and brought us into the world. "Some are not lucky enough to go home, see their parent's house, others pass by it when they go to the Remembarance Sunday, but I figured there are more eloquent examples for certain situations, and it would be good to get a a book in which each of us can find the world of childhood and the world of adolescence and youth, and not only as a retrospective of what we are but above all for an immediate connection to everything that means dignity, everything that means courage to be better today than yesterday. In dialogue with such ideas I ventured to write this book," said Varvara Buzila.
According to the author, it is a book about a field of sensitivity, but also about all that is symbolic thinking, a symbolic object, because this traditional art works best in the genetic code in the cultural sense.
At her turn, ethnographer Dorina Onica specified that the is a book that will contribute to the promotion of ethnocultural tourism. In this context, the President of the Union of Moldovan Craftsmen, Dumitru Costandachi, has remarked that this book is also a tribute to all traditional art creators and ethnographer Andrei Prohin found that the work in question is the product of a whole life dedicated to traditional culture.
It appeared with the support of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MECC) within the national book editing project.
Varvara Buzila was born on 19 November 1955 in village Trebujeni, Orhei district. She studied at the Faculty of Journalism, State University of Chisinau (1975 – 1980). She has a PhD in folklore, at Babes – Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca (1998). She is the author of more topical books.
