First photovoltaic plants of big eligible producers commissioned in Moldova

All photovoltaic plants developed by investors winners of the first auction to obtain the status of big eligible producer have been officially commissioned. Authorities say that this step marks an important moment in the energy transition process and strengthens Moldova's capacity to produce clean energy from renewable sources.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the auctions organized this year targeted attracting investments in projects with a total capacity of 165 MW, of which 60 MW from solar sources and 105 MW from wind sources. Eleven investors were selected as winners out of 44 bids submitted, covering the entire capacity provided for tender.

The status of a big eligible producer was provided in last August, facilitating the conclusion of electricity sale contracts with JSC Energocom for a period of 15 years. Prices set by the auction are 1.16 lei/kWh for photovoltaic energy and 1.32 lei/kWh for wind energy, among the most competitive in the company's portfolio.

The Ministry estimates that the new plants will provide approximately 8.4 per cent of the country's annual electricity consumption and the share of renewable energy in final consumption might reach 30 per cent after the first year of operation. Private investments attracted exceed 190 million euros, generating around 400 temporary construction jobs and 40 permanent positions for operation and maintenance.

According to official data, by the end of July 2025, the total installed capacity of renewable energy in Moldova was 784.09 MW, by 204.7 MW more against the end of the year before.
