Former MP free in Greece

Former Democratic MP Constantin Țuțu, detained in July in Athens together with former PDM leader Vladimir Plahotniuc has been released by the Greek judiciary and is set to return to the Republic of Moldova. Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin mentioned that Țuțu bought a plane ticket from Athens to Chișinău and is expected to land on September 4.

The official notes that the former deputy's freedom of movement was not restricted and that no extradition measures can be discussed.

“We have information that he has purchased a ticket. He did not have a restrictive measure, so his freedom of movement was not restricted and we cannot talk about extradition measures,” Misail-Nichitin said.

Marcel Dumbrăvan, new chief anti-corruption prosecutor said that Constantin Țuțu is investigated in several cases and is expected at a court hearing on September 16. He said that the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office has not submitted extradition requests regarding the former deputy.

Țuțu was detained on July 22 at Athens airport along with Vladimir Plahotniuc. In the Republic of Moldova, he is investigated for influence peddling and illicit enrichment.
