The foundations for the 486 pillars of Vulcănești-Chișinău Overhead Power Line, representing 96 percent of them, have been completed. Additionally, 83 percent of them have already been assembled, with an installation rate of 73 percent. These figures were presented during the visit of World Bank Group Country Manager Ulrich Schmitt to the construction sites of Vulcănești Power Line and Power Station.
Alongside the work on the pillars, worker teams are also carrying out conductor installation, with a result of 45 km of conductors laid so far.
During the visit, Ulrich Schmitt appreciated the active pace of the work and the progress made, highlighting the strategic importance of the project for the energy security and independence of the Republic of Moldova.
“This project is essential for strengthening the national energy system and increasing Moldova's resilience. More than ever, it is necessary to accelerate these investments to ensure a safe and sustainable future for the energy sector,” stated Ulrich Schmitt.
The official was accompanied by deputy head of Moldelectrica company Sergiu Carmanschi, who mentioned that Vulcănești-Chișinău Line is an important investment in modernizing energy infrastructure and creating safer and more stable connections.
Construction work on Vulcănești-Chișinău LEA effectively began in April 2024 and is part of the Electric Power Development Project, funded by the World Bank Group. Its value is 61 million euros, of which about 27 million euros are for the construction of the Line.
Vulcănești–Chișinău LEA, stretching 157 km, will include over 500 towers and 1500 km of conductors across three phases, creating a strategic link between the south and center of the country. The line, depending on the electric power system regime, will be able to ensure the transit of a flow of up to 630 MVA of power, which could satisfy the need for 50% of energy consumption during peak periods.
Vulcănești-Chișinău Line's construction is a project of strategic importance for our country's energy security. The new power line will allow the transport of electricity from Romania or other European markets to Chișinău, without passing through the Moldovan power plant located in the Transnistrian region.
