The Ministry of Environment announces the strengthening of intervention capacities for protecting the Dniester River, following the reception of several batches of technical assistance from the member states of the European Union. Minister Gheorghe Hajder emphasized the importance of this support for maintaining the integrity of the aquatic ecosystem and for ensuring the safety of the teams carrying out maintenance work on protective dams.

After receiving technical assistance from Slovakia, the response capacity of the Moldovan authorities was further strengthened with equipment provided through European solidarity mechanisms. The new batches of materials, originating from Germany, Luxembourg, Poland, and Belgium, are intended both for personnel protection and for complex technical operations on the water.

“For personnel protection, Germany and Poland have supplied hundreds of specialized protective suits (PPE type 3), full-face masks with filters, and over 1,000 pairs of gloves resistant to chemical substances. For energy support, Luxembourg contributed two high-capacity generators (60 KVa), vital for ensuring power supply at isolated work sites. Likewise, for ecological intervention, Belgium delivered equipment necessary for containing and collecting potential pollutants, including 34 units of oil containment booms (Vikoma and Flexiboom models), mechanical skimmers for cleaning the water surface, and storage tanks of up to 13,000 liters,” the environment authority states.

Gheorghe Hajder reiterated that the ministry’s teams are continuously monitoring water quality and the condition of protective infrastructure along the Dniester.

“Our response capacity is significantly strengthened through the solidarity of partners from the European Union. This equipment allows us to intervene much more efficiently in the field and to protect the specialists who work in difficult conditions,” the official noted.

The external assistance received facilitates the uninterrupted carrying out of dam maintenance works and enables a rapid response in the event of environmental incidents. The minister thanked the European partners for this strategic support, stressing that “protecting the Dniester River remains an absolute priority for the ecological security of the Republic of Moldova.”
