Progress achieved by Moldova in implementing structural reforms discussed with World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia

The progress achieved by Moldova in implementing structural reforms, with a focus on the digitalization of financial infrastructure and strengthening the resilience of the financial sector, has been analyzed at a meeting held in Washington between the Moldovan delegation, led by Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) Anca Dragu and Minister of Finance Andrian Gavrilita and Antonella Bassani, Vice President of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia.

The discussions covered the macroeconomic outlook of Moldova, the results of the FSAP (Financial Sector Assessment Programme) exercise, and the technical cooperation between the BNM and the World Bank (WB).

Anca Dragu emphasized that, through these joint efforts, the BNM reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a sound banking sector, ready to respond to global challenges and to support the country’s long-term prosperity.

“The World Bank’s experience is fundamental to our ambition to build a modern and resilient financial ecosystem. We are not limiting ourselves to supervising stability; we are focusing on democratizing access to capital through digitalization and innovation. Our partnership is transforming Moldova’s financial architecture into a more transparent system, capable of providing safe and accessible solutions to each citizen and entrepreneur, thereby facilitating our quick integration into the European single market,” said the BNM Governor.

A delegation of Moldova, led by BNM Governor Anca Dragu and Finance Minister Andrian Gavrilita, on April 13-18, 2026, is participating in the Spring Meetings of the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), held in Washington, D.C., USA.

The visit’s agenda includes a string of meetings with representatives of the IMF, WB, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and other international financial organizations and groups. The high-level dialogue with the IMF is taking place in the context of the Moldovan authorities’ request to launch a new three-year programme with the Fund, without a financial component.
