Several varieties of peach, apricot to be tested in Moldova
Chisinau, 17 May /MOLDPRES/- Moldova Fruct Association, in partnership with the Livada Moldovei project and the Plant Production Research Center in Cesena (Italy) have launched an initiative that will allow testing of several varieties of peach and apricot in the country.
For this, 14 varieties were selected to be tested in the conditions of the southern and central regions of the country. Platimoon, Orihuela, Sweet Cap, Ufo, Alissa are just some of the varieties that were selected with the help of Italian partners, being planted on the lands of two member companies of the Moldova Fruit Association.
Experts say that at the moment there is a market for all fruit species, but modern varieties that meet market requirements must be selected. According to experts, the field of research in our country has lagged behind and a reform is needed, along with the renovation of other sectors and the legislative framework. All these processes take time, but the horticultural sector needs solutions now, so the association together with the partners have taken the first steps to offer these solutions to producers.
"The association invites representatives of research institutions to come up with recommendations. We are grateful to the producers who volunteered to test the varieties on their land. In the next period, all the experience gained will be shared in the seminars we organize for our members, as well as for all interested producers ", said Iurie Fală, executive director of Moldova Fruct Association.
