Deputy Prime Minister's message on World Press Freedom Day
Chisinau, May 3 /MOLDPRES/- The head of Moldovan diplomacy, Nicu Popescu, conveyed the following message on World Press Freedom Day:
"On World Press Freedom Day, I would like to express my respect and appreciation for all journalists who do their job with passion, responsibility and integrity.
The free and independent press has an important role in strengthening democracy and protecting the rights and freedoms of citizens, especially in the context of attempts to destabilize the Republic of Moldova - including through the use of disinformation and manipulation tools.
According to the Reporters Without Borders Report, published a few hours ago, the Republic of Moldova managed to climb 12 positions in the Press Freedom Index, now ranking 28th out of 180 countries, alongside countries such as France, Great Britain or Austria. We are committed to continuing to protect the freedom and security of the press, as well as access to information of public interest as essential elements of a European society".
