Moldovan government finds solutions for resumption of waste disposal in Chisinau
Chisinau, 6 June /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Pavel Filip convened a string of meetings on waste disposal in Chisinau. Attending the event were decision-makers and the group of people delegated by residents of Bubuieci village. At the second meeting were convened members of the Emergencies Commission, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
Filip and local people in Bubuieci had a constructive dialogue and jointly identified a solution to evacuate garbage in Chisinau. Thus, starting with Tuesday, waste will be discharged from the city. The premier reiterated he understands the dissatisfaction of citizens in Bubuieci and regrets that local authorities have not solved this problem so far. “Unfortunately, this is an exceptional situation and we must intervene. We are ready to help colleagues in the city hall, but we cannot do miracles overnight and we need maximum one month to solve the emerged situation”, he said.
The premier proposed the villagers of Bubuieci to delegate a person to participate along with the working group in the elaboration of an action plan to solve this problem. “We do not want to come up with solving the problem for a day, but with a perspective solution by eliminating the causes. We are going to set a complex country vision on waste management and actions due to be taken in this regard”, he said.
For their part, representatives of Bubuieci residents accepted the one-month term provided the authorities finally settle the situation and thanked the premier and government for openness and involvement.
The premier ordered the Health Ministry to monitor the epidemiological situation in Chisinau and its suburbs and to take all necessary measures according to their competence for the protection of the population. Also, the National Public Health Centre will ensure risk assessment and permanent monitoring of the epidemiological situation in relation to the quantities of waste discharged to the storage polygons. The Environment Ministry in the context of the Waste Management Strategy in Moldova for 2013-2027 will speed up the feasibility studies for eight waste management regions, including Chisinau and neighboring settlements, through the project funded by the European Investment Bank.
