Moldovan government to undertake all needed actions for holding free, transparent, democratic elections
Chisinau, 11 June /MOLDPRES/ - Acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi today had a meeting with the delegation of the ad-hoc committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for the observation of the 11 July 2021 snap parliamentary elections, led by Stefan Schennach, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The participants in the meeting tackled also peculiarities of the carrying out of the election observation mission by the ad-hoc committee, including the working out of a report on the holding of the polls in Moldova, due to be presented at the PACE autumn session, on 27 September – 1 October 2021
The sides discussed aspects on the organization of the snap parliamentary elections, both in Moldova and abroad, the number of polling stations, including the peculiarities and the need of carrying out an electoral campaign according to the good practices in the field. Aureliu Ciocoi assured that the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE) had all logistic capacities necessary for the good organization of the polling stations abroad.
The participants in the meeting also approached the subjects on the acting government’s financial capacities to cover the needed expenses for the organization and carrying out of the ballot. The acting PM specified that 70 million lei had been allocated to this end for the moment.
The delegation members showed interest in the cabinet’s possibilities to ensure the sanitary protection norms at the elections. Aureliu Ciocoi said that the authorities already had this experience from the presidential polls from November 2020. Moreover, at present, the epidemiological situation is much friendlier than in the last autumn, due to the starting of the vaccination process. The acting PM gave assurances that all needed protection equipments and sanitary materials would be made available at the polling stations.
The sides also discussed Moldova’s cooperation with PACE and Council of Europe on the whole, the importance of implementation of the Council of Europe’s 2021-2024 Action Plan for Moldova, as well as of the justice reform.
„We appreciate a lot Moldova’s partnership with PACE and the interest in the developments in our country. We believe that the cooperation and expertise provided by the Council of Europe are indispensable in the context of the efforts of promoting the domestic reforms,’’ the acting PM stressed. He noted that the acting government would take all necessary measures for the holding of free, transparent and democratic elections.
