Moldovan PM, at meeting with Romanian President, says EU to be stronger with free Moldova

The strategic partnership between Bucharest and Chisinau, possibilities for expanding bilateral projects and Romanian support for Moldova's European path have been discussed at a meeting of Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean with President of Romania Nicusor Dan.

The PM expressed gratitude to Romania for the support provided in all areas, emphasizing the potential to increase the number of bilateral projects that bring concrete benefits to citizens on both banks of the Prut Rover: "We are working together on projects to modernize border crossing points, developing projects of collaboration in education and research, fighting disinformation and ensuring peace and democracy in the region."

The prime minister also referred to road infrastructure projects. By 2027, the bridges at Sculeni-Sculeni, Cahul-Oancea, and Leuseni-Albita will be modernized. At the same time, four new bridges across the Prut Rover are planned, which will strengthen the physical connection between the two countries: Costesti-Stanca, Leova-Bumbata, Leca-Falciu and Barboieni-Raducaneni.

Also, the PM touched upon the importance of energy connectivity projects - the works on the Chișinău-Vulcanesti high-voltage line will be completed by the end of this year, and for the following years, two more connections are planned: Balti-Suceava and Straseni-Gutinas.

Another subject was the continued development of economic relations. Presently, about 1,700 Romanian companies are active in Moldova, while over 8,000 companies with Moldovan capital operate in Romania, generating a turnover of over three billion euros and supporting over 20,000 jobs.

In addition, Prime Minister Dorin Recean appreciated the consistency with which Romania supports the European path of Moldova: "Romania helps us with experience, concrete support, but especially with a strong voice in Brussels for Moldova's future in the European family. The European Union will be stronger with a free Moldova, contributing to peace on the continent and European unity."

In the context of current regional challenges, the officials highlighted the need for close cooperation in combating disinformation and hybrid threats, which pose threats to peace, security and European values.
