Moldovan PM conveys message on 26th anniversary of adoption of law on special legal status of Gagauzia
Chisinau, 23 December /MOLDPRES/- Today Prime Minister Ion Chicu sent a message on the 26th anniversary of the adoption of the Law on special legal status of Gagauzia, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
The message reads:
"On 23 December 1994, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova adopted the Law on special legal status of Gagauzia (Gagauz-Yeri), which entered into force on 14 January 1995.
This legal act laid the foundation for ensuring political and economic stability, full and multilateral development, preserving and promoting the national values and national identity of the Gagauz, maintaining good relations between ethnic groups, which have been formed on this earth for centuries.
Thus, Gagauzia has become an autonomous territorial unit with a special status which is also an integral and inalienable part of the Republic of Moldova. Thus, the Republic of Moldova managed to become an example of peaceful settlement of ethno-political conflicts.
Diversity is a characteristic of our country and I believe that we must appreciate it correctly - as an indisputable value, given that each ethnic group has its share in the treasury of the entire nation. It is important to exclude arrears in terms of cultural tolerance, which is manifested by the amplification of xenophobic messages, by the rise of populist movements and political radicalization. These can lead to dangerous manifestations and endanger the safety of citizens.
What unites us is much stronger than what separates us. All developed countries are defined by a different linguistic, cultural, religious diversity and traditions, but united around common fundamental values - tolerance, mutual respect and cooperation - this is the character of the democratic society in the Republic of Moldova - a country of all and with common ideals. These criteria are essential for peace, solidarity, prosperity, security and stability in the region.
During 2020, facing major challenges - the pandemic and severe weather conditions for agriculture - the efforts of central and local executive powers remained focused on increasing the welfare of people, developing community and economic infrastructure, creating a favorable and fair environment for business development. Together we develop a better country for citizens, an inclusive country, based on results, concrete projects, consensus and stability, and with an effective communication strategy at different levels of administration.
Today, the leadership of the region made the right choice, namely that of turning to good account development opportunities through industrialization, development of social and economic infrastructure objectives. Gagauzia has reliable partners, which is why it fits effectively into the balance of regional and global economic flows, and young people choose their homeland with more confidence to make their future.
Good results are determined by the ability to communicate, cooperate and political dialogue, perseverance and fairness. This represents the perspective of those achieved during 26 years for the prosperity of the Gagauzia Autonomous Territorial Unit.I wish the Gagauz people prosperity which we will be able to achieve only through common effort.
Congratulations to all on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the adoption of the Law on special legal status of Gagauzia (Gagauz-Yeri).
May we all have peace and understanding.
