Moldovan president, new IMF Resident representative discuss country's medium-term priorities
Chisinau, 25 August /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today had a meeting with new Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund in Chisinau Rodgers Chawani.
According to the presidential press service, the main subjects tackled at the discussions were Moldova’s medium-term priorities and needs of foreign financing, in order to ensure the macro-economic stability and back the economic development.
The head of state welcomed the fact that the money allocated under a decision by the IMF Board of Directors from 2 August 2021, on the special earmarking of financial means for Moldova, was already at the disposal of the national authorities. It is about a global instrument for supporting the governments in combating the pandemic effects and subsequent economic recovery, with Moldova benefiting from about 235 million dollars.
„We discussed a new programme with IMF for Moldova, which might be given final touches in text autumn, with a team of experts of the Fund expected in Chisinau in late September 2021. We agreed that the programme must support coherent economic, financial and social policies, in the interest of our country’s citizens,’’ President Maia Sandu said.
