
Moldovan president, UNESCO Director General discuss protection of Gagauz language
President Maia Sandu has met Director General of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Audrey Azoulay at the organization’s headquarters, during her visit to Paris. The officials discussed the cooperation in the fields of culture, education and protection of the cultural heritage of Moldova.
An important subject was the protection of the Gagauz language and culture. The Gagauz language is on UNESCO’s list of endangered languages and President Sandu supports the efforts of its preservation and promotion, as part of Moldova’s cultural identity.
„The Gagauz language is part of our cultural heritage. Its protection and promotion is a priority for us and UNESCO’s support is essential for its conservation,’’ President Maia Sandu said.
