Moldovan PM says Moldova returned to Latin script, Romanian language under Tricolor flag
Moldova returned to Latin script and the Romanian language, demanded freedom, and paved the way for independence under the Tricolor flag. Prime Minister Dorin Recean today conveyed a message to this effect, at the solemn ceremony dedicated to the State Flag Day.
According to the official, 35 years ago, the Flag of the Republic of Moldova proudly fluttered on the building of the country's parliament as a symbol of unity, sovereignty and national revival.
“We fly it on the streets and squares of our cities. We see it in major municipalities — in Chisinau, Cahul, Comrat, Ungheni, Orhei, Soroca, and Edinet — or in the smallest village in the country, Salcia. Under the Tricolor, Moldova returned to Latin script and the Romanian language, demanded freedom and paved the way for Independence,” Dorin Recean said.
The official emphasized that the flag accompanied the Moldovans in all important moments of life.
“We carry it with us — from the peaks of the highest mountains to space, thanks to our engineering students. The flag is with the students who stand on international podiums, the sportspeople who bring medals home, our military on peace missions, and the artists who represent us with dignity worldwide,” said Dorin Recean.
The prime minister noted that the State Flag was the bridge that united the Diaspora with the country.
“It reminds us that, wherever we are, we bear the same colors, the same dignity, the same hope. The blue of the Tricolor reminds us of the peaceful sky and the dream of freedom. The yellow brings to soul the richness of the land and the light of justice. The red carries courage, sacrifice and solidarity that have united us as a people. Today and every day, we proudly and faithfully fly the Flag. Honor to the tricolor!” Dorin Recean also said.
Moldova marks today marks the State Flag Day — a symbol of our sovereignty, independence and national identity. The celebration was established by the Moldovan parliament on April 23, 2010. The tricolor was officially designated as the state flag on April 27, 1990, and today marks 35 years of its adoption.
The State Flag of Moldova is a major official symbol of sovereignty and independence. It consists of a rectangular cloth with a height-to-length ratio of 1:2, divided vertically equally from the hoist in blue, yellow, and red colors, with the image of the State Coat of Arms of Moldova in the center of the yellow field, whose width constitutes 1/5 of the flag's length.
