Moldova, Austria strengthen cooperation; Moldovan parliament speaker meets new Austrian ambassador

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has met Austrian Ambassador Martina Viktoria Hermann, who is beginning her assignment in Moldova. The officials discussed strengthening bilateral relations and Moldova’s European path.

Igor Grosu emphasized that joining the European Union stayed Moldova’s main strategic priority, and that the country continued to advance through reforms, particularly in the field of justice.

The speaker also welcomed Austria’s continued support for democratic processes and the European integration of Moldova.

“For the citizens of Moldova, it is essential that the European Union remains a credible and predictable partner. We must make the most of the current window of opportunity, based on Moldova’s progress and the political will existing at the European level, so that the enlargement process remains merit-based,” Igor Grosu said.

Moldova and Austria established diplomatic relations on March 25, 1992. Since then, cooperation between the two countries has developed in such areas as economic relations, investments, development cooperation, agriculture, social security, police cooperation, culture and the arts. Presently, the bilateral legal framework comprises 17 treaties, agreements and memoranda. There are 92 companies with Austrian capital registered in Moldova.

Austria supports Moldova’s European path, including through expertise, the exchange of best practices and institutional cooperation. In June 2026, investment opportunities and the expansion of economic partnerships between the two countries were discussed in Vienna.
