Emmanuel Macron, Friedrich Merz, Donald Tusk expected in Chisinau on Independence Day; President Maia Sandu describes visit as proof that Moldova matters

On the Independence Day of the Republic of Moldova, the country will be visited by President of France Emmanuel Macron, Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz and Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk. In an exclusive interview given with MOLDPRES, President Maia Sandu said that "this visit is a proof that Moldova matters, is respected and is not alone."

The Moldovan president highlighted that, in recent years, the authorities of Moldova had managed to build strong partnerships and even sincere friendships, which "help us keep Moldova safe, maintain peace and develop."

"You have seen that, in recent years, we invited guests almost every time, except for the year when the war in Ukraine started. Initially, we invited our neighbors - Romania and Ukraine. Last year, we invited the presidents of the Baltic states - Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. This year, another three important leaders will come, not only at the level of our continent, but globally," said Maia Sandu.

The official noted that Moldova contributed to stability in the region and would do everything to preserve peace and calm in this area of Europe.

"I will tell European officials that Moldova shares democratic values, wants to belong to the free world, to be part of the large European family, being a solidary country, which it actually proved. Of course, on Independence Day, we expect all our citizens on the Great National Assembly Square in order to meet and enjoy the things we have achieved together in these 34 years," Maia Sandu said.

The exclusive interview given to MOLDPRES will be issued on August 27 morning. In the interview, the head of state discussed the symbol of the Independence Day, the European integration process, the establishment of peace in Ukraine, the settlement of the Transnistrian dispute, the extradition of Vladimir Plahotniuc, countering misinformation and propaganda, in the context of the parliamentary elections due on September 28, 2025.
