Twenty seven American Peace Corps volunteers start mission in Moldova
Twenty-seven Peace Corps volunteers today took the oath at an official ceremony presided over by U.S. Charge d'Affaires in Moldova Nick Pietrowicz. The event marks the launch of the 37th cohort of the programme in the country.
According to the U.S. Embassy, the volunteers will spend the next two years in various communities throughout Moldova, where they will teach English, promote health education and support the development of local organizations and communities. Their activities will be conducted in partnership with teachers and local authorities, in order to strengthen cultural exchange and community development.
This group of volunteers came to Moldova on June 4 and completed an intensive training programme. During their training, the volunteers lived with host families and studied the Romanian language.
The Peace Corps has been active in Moldova since 1993; meanwhile, hundreds of American volunteers have contributed to educational, social and economic projects across the country.
