Happy National Day, Italy! Italian Flag projected on National Museum of History
The Republic of Moldova is marking Italy’s National Day and the 80th anniversary of the proclamation of the Italian Republic through a symbolic gesture of appreciation and friendship toward the Italian people. Yesterday evening, the flag of Italy was projected onto the building of the National Museum of History of Moldova in Chisinau.
According to the Ministry of Culture, the initiative is a sign of respect, solidarity, and gratitude for Italy’s contribution to the development of bilateral relations and for the support offered to Moldovan citizens over the years.
“As a sign of respect and appreciation for the Italian people, this evening the flag of Italy is projected on the building of the National Museum of History of Moldova. It is a symbolic gesture of solidarity, friendship, and gratitude for all that Italy means to the Republic of Moldova and its people,” the ministry’s statement reads.
Italy’s Republic Day is celebrated annually on June 2 and commemorates the 1946 referendum, following which Italians chose the republican form of government. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the proclamation of the Italian Republic.
Today in Rome, a military parade is taking place on Via dei Fori Imperiali, in the presence of state officials. The event attracts both locals and numerous tourists every year.
On this occasion, concerts, exhibitions, and official ceremonies are organized in several cities across Italy. Government buildings are often illuminated in the colors of the Italian flag: green, white, and red.
Italy covers an area of 301,338 km² and has a temperate climate. Due to the shape of its peninsula, it is popularly called lo Stivale (“the Boot”). With approximately 61 million inhabitants, it is the fifth most populous country in Europe. Italy is a developed state and has the third-largest economy in the eurozone and the eighth-largest in the world by nominal GDP. It also plays an important role in international military, cultural, and diplomatic affairs and is considered a major regional power. Italy is one of the founding and leading members of the European Union and is also a member of several other international organizations.
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Italian Republic were established on February 21, 1992.
The Italian Republic is one of the main economic partners of the Republic of Moldova, both in terms of trade exchanges and investments.
