Best Moldovan pupils awarded prizes at gala of participants in Olympiads 2017

Chisinau, 21 December /MOLDPRES/ – More than 40 pupils from all over Moldova, who achieved remarkable results at regional and international competitions and contests, thus contributing to the international image of Moldova, got awards today at Olympics Gala 2017. The event was organized by Ministry of Education, Culture and Research jointly with the National Agency for Curriculum and Evaluation.

According to organizers, Moldovan Olimpians participated in 15 regional and international competitions in 2017 that took place in: Armenia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Macedonia, Great Britain, the Netherlands, USA and Thailand. Also, Moldova hosted the Balkan Olympics in Computer Science, attended by pupils from 12 countries.

These international competitions were held in the following disciplines: Mathematics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Ecology and French. From all these competitions pupils from Moldova returned with two gold medals, 8 silver, 23 bronze and 10 honorable mentions.

Present at the event, Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, congratulated the students as well as their teachers and parents, without whose support they would not have obtained, saying that education represents for Moldova a strategic objective and main resource on which we have are people and knowledge lies at the basis of development.

In this context, the Minister of Education, Culture and Research, Monica Babuc, said that the holders of the 43 medals represent "the flower and the future of this nation". "Moldova has an exceptional human resource that will ensure our goal of European integration. You made us feel proud of our country," said Monica Babuc.

Among the 43 winners, two won four medals: Alexandru Rudi and Gabriel Cojocaru, pupils at theoretical lyceum Orizont. They received a prize of MDL 40,000 and MDL 35,000, accordingly.

Interviewed by the agency, Alexandru Rudi said that in order to achieve such results, it is necessary not only work and desire, but also support of parents and teachers. He said that he would invest that prize into studies. At his part, Gabriel Cojocaru said he was pleased with the results, because he worked hard over the years, but "it was worth it because the effort brought success."

There were several teachers among awardees. Professor, Ion Gutu, head of department at the State University of Moldova (USM), holder of diploma of excellence, president of the French Olympic Committee, said that Camelia Saranciuc won gold medal at the International Olympiad in Armenia in 2017. "Of the six awarding places, three were occupied by our disciples," said Ion Gutu.

The prize winners are from several pre – university education institutions of Moldova. The better part of awards received pupils of theoretical lyceum Orizont in Chisinau.
