CNAM: Moldovans residing abroad for over 183 days per year not obligated to pay mandatory health insurance premium

Moldovan citizens who reside abroad for more than 183 days a year are not required to pay the mandatory health insurance premium.

According to the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM), the obligation arises if citizens are abroad for less than six months (183 days) during one calendar year.

“However, there is an exception to this rule - our citizens who are founders of individual enterprises in the Republic of Moldova or farm households are obliged to pay the health insurance premium, even if they are settled abroad and do not earn income from these activities,” clarified CNAM.

The institution also emphasized that anyone has the possibility and the right to pay the health insurance premium.

“If our citizens settled abroad want to benefit from health insurance in Moldova - treatment, reimbursed medicines, a comprehensive list of medical services, free hospitalization, they can pay the premium on equal terms with those in the country,” remarked CNAM.

Thus, the facilities for Moldovans in the diaspora are applicable until March 31, 2025, just like for those in the Republic of Moldova. The premium is valued at 12,636 lei, but until the last day of March, they can pay 2,527 lei. Moreover, for agricultural landowners, the facilitated sum is 1,264 lei.

Payments can be made online via the MPay service.

Individuals with questions about paying the fixed health insurance premium can call the CNAM Info Telephone Service - 0 800 99999 (free call both from landline and mobile).
