The third contingent of the National Army today was deployed to the peacekeeping operation under the aegis of the European Union’s EUFOR ALTHEA mission in Bosnia & Herzegovina. The 18 Moldovan service members will carry out security, facility protection and patrol missions in their area of responsibility for six months.

The service members will serve as part of the Romanian Army’s battalion, alongside troops from Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Albania, and Turkey.

During the event, Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatii praised the professionalism and the level of training of the service members. The official said that “the participation of the National Army in the EUFOR ALTHEA operation reaffirms our country’s commitment to contributing to international peace and stability.”

For his part, Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Cristian-Leon Turcanu and the deputy head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, Máté Csicsai, emphasized the importance of international cooperation in maintaining peace and stability in the Western Balkans.

The EUFOR ALTHEA operation was established pursuant to a UN Security Council Resolution and a decision of the EU Council from November 25, 2004.
