Head of General Police Inspectorate says Alexandr Nesterovschi, Irina Lozovan did not leave Moldova
MPs Alexandr Nesterovschi and Irina Lozovan, both sentenced to prison, are located on the left bank of Dniester. According to Head of the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), Viorel Cernauteanu, the two lawmakers have not left the country's territory.
“Unfortunately, given that this segment is not controlled, we cannot intervene. We understand that such an action by the law enforcement bodies would pose certain risks to our personnel. I want to assure you that the law and enforcement institutions are taking all legal actions to bring the individuals into the institutional control of the state,” said Viorel Cernauteanu.
The IGP chief claims that the two MPs can only leave the country through a controlled segment.
“There is no legal border crossing between the Transnistrian segment and Ukraine. To leave the country, the two persons must come to the controlled territory of Moldova,” said stated Viorel Cernauteanu.
On March 19, 2025, MP Alexandr Nesterovschi was sentenced to 12 years in prison for passive bribery, preparing and accepting the financing of a political party by an organized crime ring.
At the same time, on March 31, 2025, lawmaker Irina Lozovan was sentenced to six years in a closed-type penitentiary, in the case in which she is charged with illegal financing of a political party by an organized crime ring. She allegedly accepted money from the organized crime ring led by Ilan Shor, in order to support the party's activities.
