Magistrate Ion Talpa new president of College for selection, evaluation of judges
The College for the election and evaluation of judges of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) has elected its president. Magistrate Ion Talpa was elected by unanimous vote.
Under the legislation, the College for the election and evaluation of judges of CSM selects the candidates for the office of judge and assesses their performances. After the end of the mandate of the Vetting Commission, which is presently dealing with the evaluation of the integrity and professionalism of judges, the College is to take over these powers, which will enhance its role in ensuring a body of competent and non-compromised magistrates.
Presently, the College is made up of six members and is functional. CSM is to select, based on a contest underway, three members in the College from civil society’s representatives.
