Mayor of Moldova's Edinet district detained for passive corruption
Chisinau, 6 July /MOLDPRES/ - The mayor of the Goleni village, northern Edinet district, was detained in a file on passive corruption today. He us suspected of having taken possession of the monthly salaries of the mayoralty’s auxiliary staff.
According to the National Anticorruption Centre, since December 2021 so far, the civil servant would have claimed from an employee of the House of Ceremonies at the mayoralty to pay him her monthly salary, under the pretext of failing to properly fulfill the job duties. The woman would have been threatened with the dismissal from office, if she refused to give him the money. The denouncer said that, in February 2022, the mayor would have received from her the value of a monthly salary of 3,000 lei. At the same time, the mayor would have demanded also the salaries for the labour due to be carried out in the next half a year.
During investigations, law-enforcers found out that more people, including the employee from the House of Ceremonies, would be employed fictitiously at the mayoralty and their salaries would be appropriated by decision-makers.
Searches were made the mayor’s office today morning, in the wake of which the local authority was detained for 72 hours.
