Moldovan education ministry accepts organization of lyceum education with one tenth-form class in institutions from central Moldova district
Chisinau, 21 August /MOLDPRES/ - The Education and Research Ministry (MEC) backs a request by the Ialoveni district department to open more tenth-form classes at the lyceums from the district, including at the lyceum from the Rusestii Noi village. The latter lyceum is to become zonal institution, where the tenth-form pupils of the neighbour village, Vasieni, will study.
Minister Dan Perciun today had a meeting with more parents of the two settlements, during which the opening of the lyceum classes was analyzed. The subject was discussed also with the head of the education department from the Ialoveni district.
Today evening, the district education department sent a request to MEC on the organization of the lyceum education based on one tenth-form class, including at the lyceum from the Rusestii Noi village. Following additional consultations, the ministry ruled to support this request. The local authorities in the education sector committed to ensure the conditions needed for the carriage of teenagers from Vasieni to Rusestii Noi, with the distance between the two settlements being of 6.4 km. The transport unit due to be used on this purpose is in a good technical condition.
Presently, 20 applications on admission were submitted at the lyceum from Rusestii Noi and 17 at the one from Vasieni. Forty pupils study in the ninth form in Rusestii Noi and 19 – in Vasieni. In the 2022-2023 academic year, the lyceum from Vasieni did not have admission to the lyceum classes, because of the small number of candidates.
The methodology of pupils’ admission to the lyceum education, approved in 2017, provides for the opening of lyceum classes in the institutions which have at least two tenth-form classes. The document envisages, as exception, that MEC can accept, at a proposal by the district councils, the organization of the lyceum education based on a single tenth-form class, if the education institutions from the rural environment meet more conditions, including the small distance between the settlements and the district council’s willingness to provide transport for pupils.
Because of the small number of pupils, eight education institutions from the central Ialoveni district had to give up the tenth-form classes. This situation discontented parents, who protested outside the government building today.
