Moldovan parliament speaker visits Romanian Army veteran, aged 106 years
He witnessed war, endured the ordeal of Stalinist deportations, and today, at the age of 106, he wishes for peace in the world and for Moldova to become part of the greater European family. The oldest voter in Moldova, Constantin Cojocari, born in the village of Sofia, Hancesti district, a veteran of World War II, received guests and congratulations on his birthday.
Constantin Cojocari was an eyewitness to major events that marked history. From 1942 to 1944, he was mobilized on the front, serving as a telegraphist in the Romanian Army. Surviving the Second World War unscathed, a new trial awaited him. In 1951, he was deported by the Soviets to Siberia, where he spent nine years enduring cold, hunger, and deprivation. He returned to Sofia, his native village, where he worked in the field and as driver.
Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu visited Constantin Cojocari on May 9 last year and didn't miss the opportunity to wish him today a sincere happy birthday. The speaker was again visiting the longest-serving voter in Moldova, who, at the age of 106 years, maintains his civic position and cares about Moldova's future. Constantin Cojocari is a "hero and symbol of our nation," Grosu stressed.
"This time too, I found him very well-informed about the situation in Moldova and the world, reiterating that he wishes most for peace and to see the day when Moldova will be in the great European family. Therefore, for Mr. Constantin and future generations, we have the obligation to keep peace and work for a European Moldova. Happy Birthday, Mr. Constantin Cojocari!" wrote Igor Grosu on his Facebook page.
The veteran also received congratulations on behalf of the National Army today.
"This honorable age is an evidence of courage, dedication, and resilience of a generation that went through severe trials. In the name of the National Army and the community, we wish him health, strength and joyful moments with his loved ones. The gratitude for the sacrifices made in service of the country is immeasurable and his example will stay an inspiration for future generations. Happy birthday, good health, with respect and admiration!" reads the message of the National Army.
