National Wine Day-2019 to be held in extended format in Moldova
Chisinau, 12 September /MOLDPRES/ - The National Wine Day will be marked in 2019 – the year of a symbolic coming of age since the event’s first organization, through “a more extended anniversary edition, in terms of space and period of carrying out, tastier, more entertaining, more international,” the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry (MADRM) has reported.
The date of the event remains unchanged – the first week-end of October – 5 and 6 October; yet, the holiday will be started by the wineries with oenological-tourist potential of Moldova one week earlier. They will open the doors for guests starting from 28 September till 13 October.
For the first time ever, on 5-6 October, the Wine Town will extend beyond the Great National Assembly Square, comprising the Birth of God Cathedral Square. The latter will host the Wine School and the Peasant’s Yard and a concert with the participation of bands from Moldova, Romania, Ukraine will take place on the Eugen Doga pedestrian street.
Wines could be tasted depending on the region they come from. The stands of those over 65 wine-makers will be placed based on the map of the regions with Protected Geographical Indication.
Also, the visitors of the 18th issue of the National Wine Day will be able, just as in the previous years, to opt for purchasing a Card of Taster. The card will include information about the wineries present at the holiday and wines offered for tasting, 12 tickets for tasting, the schedule of the two festive days, cuts for advertising materials, as well as tickets for public transport.
“The concept of sustainability, framed in the event for several years already, will be extended and the 18th issue of the National Wine Day; it will be more environmentally friendly through optimizing the consumption of electric energy, use of renewable energy, cutting the quantity of waste, separated collection of waste, recycling, use of bio-degradable materials, ecological furniture, etc., MADRM sources said.
The National Wine Day has already become an international event. Thus, for the second year in a row, the Snagov commune of Romania will host the Moldovan Wine Day on 14-15 September. The event will bring together 26 wine-makers with the country brand, Moldova Win. A Living Legend. The Moldovan Wine Day will be marked in Iasi on 21-22 September, as well as in Baia Mare on 28-29 September. The start was given in Belarus, where the Moldovan Wine was marked in the last week-end, on 7-8 September.
The Wine festival of Moldova, subsequently officially called National Wine Day, was held for the first time ever in 2002, at an initiative by the then president of Moldova, Vladimir Voronin. Traditionally, the event takes place on the Chisinau-based Great National Assembly Square and at wineries from Moldova in the first week-end of October, after the harvesting of grapes. The festival celebrates the rich traditions of Moldova’s wine-making, which date back from the 15th century. The goal of the event is to promote and strengthen Moldova’s image as an important vine-growing and wine-making state, the knowledge of wine products, facilitate the process of Moldova’s inclusion on international tourist wine routes, attract investors and tourists, increase the domestic consumption of highly qualitative beverages, familiarize with the customs, culture and popular traditions.
