Nicolae Testemitanu Medical University of Moldova advances in UNIRANKS ranking

The Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF) in 2025 rose to 3rd place among the 28 educational institutions of Moldova included in the UNIRANKS (World’s Largest University Rankings 2026), compared to 4th place in the year before.

The institution also advanced by 484 positions worldwide, ranking 4,768th in the global table.

UNIRANKS evaluates top higher education institutions worldwide, using such criteria as performance, global presence and academic excellence. The ranking highlights institutions that excel in shaping the future of education through innovation, leadership and impactful contributions. Meant to complement global ranking systems, the UNIRANKS table recognizes universities that stand out through their achievements in teaching, research, employability and institutional sustainability.

UNIRANKS also focuses on the following criteria: excellence in research, academic and teaching excellence, excellence in employability, global engagement, social impact, campus excellence, diversity, equity and inclusion, environmental impact, excellence of facilities, excellence in online learning and subject-specific excellence.

The ranking is a global classification tool that ensures fairness, rigorous academic standards and improved employment prospects for students. The platform integrates the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals into each of its main indicators, by incorporating sub-indicators aligned with these global objectives.

Data collection and analysis are carried out through five methods and include 37,383 international universities and more than 2.5 million academic staff members registered on the ranking platform. UNIRANKS is also the first platform to focus on the latest mechanisms for university classification, introducing the concept of open ranking and highlighting modern methodologies based on transparency and equality.
