One-off childbirth allowance to be increased to 21,886 lei in Moldova; Labour Ministry proposes draft for public consultations
The one-off childbirth allowance is set to be increased from 21,350 lei to 21,886 lei, starting from January 1, 2026. The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection (MMPS) has proposed the draft for public consultations/
Minister of Labor and Social Protection Natalia Plugaru said that the payment was increasing annually, based on the growth of prices for essential goods for pregnancy and birth periods.
“Our current forecasts show a rise of over 500 lei. However, we are still analyzing the indicators and will provide additional specifications. As you know, according to legislative provisions, the one-off childbirth allowance increases based on the growth of prices for essential goods for pregnancy and birth periods,” emphasized Natalia Plugaru.
The provisions of the document will apply to children born starting from January 1, 2026. The amount of the one-off childbirth allowance is approved annually by the government.
According to estimates by the National House of Social Insurance, in 2026, about 36,400 children will benefit from the one-off childbirth allowance and financial resources amounting to about 802,448.5 thousand lei will be required, resources planned in the State Budget Law draft for 2026.
