Moldovan President pays tribute to Ilie Ilașcu
President Maia Sandu sent a message of condolences upon the news of Ilie Ilașcu's passing, an emblematic figure of the National Liberation Movement and a symbol of the fight for freedom and Romanian identity. The head of state emphasized that his entire life was dedicated to the ideals of justice, dignity, and Romanianism.
'Ilie Ilașcu has left us, a true hero of the National Liberation Movement, who fought with all his being for freedom, for Romanianism. His courage turned him into a symbol of resistance against the separatist regime from the left bank of the Dniester and of affirming the Romanian identity', Maia Sandu conveyed.
The President paid homage to Ilie Ilașcu's historical contribution, reminding that his sacrifice and integrity inspired entire generations and marked one of the most challenging periods in the recent history of the Republic of Moldova.
Maia Sandu extended her sincere condolences to the grieving family and close ones: 'May God rest him in peace.'
Ilie Ilașcu remains in the collective memory as one of the bravest fighters for freedom and national identity, and his legacy continues to be a benchmark for all who believe in the values of democracy and in a people's right to decide its destiny.
