Program on active and healthy aging launched in Moldova
Chisinau, July 11. /MOLDPRES/- On World Population Day, the authorities launched the program on active and healthy aging for 2023-2027. It sees the implementation of new measures for the elderly.
The program is carried out by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection in partnership with UNFPA Moldova. It includes a multisectoral approach to the aging phenomenon, so that all state institutions come up with measures for active and healthy aging.
The initiators of the program said that it will contribute to strengthening the efforts of the authorities and institutions involved in promoting active aging, the integration and full participation of the elderly in social life and the development of social security, health, education systems in correlation with the principle of active aging.
Thus, through this program, the Government aims to develop measures that enable the use of the potential of active and healthy aging, including by ensuring an inclusive labor market for all ages, the development of digital skills and active participation in decision-making and community development processes.
In the last six years, the number of the population aged 60 and over increased by over 4%, and the share of the elderly currently represents 23.8% of the country's population. The rapid pace of population aging causes the share of the elderly to increase significantly: according to statistics, in 2040, every second person in our country will be over 50 years old.
