Refugees. Eyewitnesses of war in Ukraine (part IV)
Chisinau, August 25 /MOLDPRES/- The war in Ukraine, which broke out on February 24, changed the course of events, days and decisions taken alertly by the authorities and citizens of the neighboring country. After the first bangs and explosions, many Ukrainians wondered where to go to find a place of refuge, a place where they could wait for the silence of the sirens to return home, on the shaken earth, already for half a year, Russian missiles.
More often than not, war separated families, leaving men at home, away from their mothers, wives, daughters and sons. In the Rusnac family, the events of the winter led to the reunion of the family, but not at home, but in the Republic of Moldova, far from their loved ones, but safe.
Olga Rusnac is a 42-year-old woman from the Odesa region. For her and her family, the morning of February 24 began differently - noisy and very alarming.
In addition to the war that continued to shake Ukraine, life continued its rhythm, their daughter completed her studies online, took the exams and submitted the documents to a university in the country. There she was admitted to studies. After two months, the family stayed at a placement center in the town of Ivancea, Orhei district. They claim that they feel very good here, the living conditions are good, but the cold season of the year is approaching, and the building does not have a heating system, therefore the center may be closed, and they will remain homeless.
“When I left, I told my mother to take care of the house, as we expected to return very soon. But half a year has already passed, and the shock of the invasion has not diminished in intensity. No one was prepared for such a scenario. From the very beginning, we thought that the conflict would be resolved through negotiations, but here Putin attacked, and millions of Ukrainians were displaced or had to leave the war path for the safety of the children," said Olga Rusnac.
The man intervened at some point. "I was living very well and I didn't need Putin's 'protection'. No one's rights were being violated and there were no differences regarding the language spoken. There are some fictitious reasons. We are glad that Volodymyr Zelensky acted promptly to defend the country. The citizens respect his courage. He has a difficult mandate, but he is doing his best to defend Ukraine and its borders", noted Maxim Rusnac.
The couple told us that they are still waiting for good news to return to the country. They still have hope that the war, which has become too heavy a burden for the citizens of this country, will soon end. In Ukraine, the fighting continues, and the sirens are still heard.
