VIDEO // Traffic takes place in winter conditions in Moldova: black ice, frost on multiple sections
Traffic is taking place in winter conditions on national roads of Moldova, with wet carriageways and, in some areas, covered with black ice, icy patches or snow.
According to the National Roads Administration, between 12:00 and 18:00, roads’ maintenance teams intervened on the national roads’ network in the north, center and south of the country. The works targeted both heavily trafficked arteries and regional roads.
Interventions were concentrated primarily on routes M1, M3, M5, R5, R6, R7, R11, R13, R14, R15, R16, R19, R20, R21, R30, as well as on roads G5, G26, G39, G46, G57, G64, G68, G69, G72 and G103, and on other road sections.
For snow removal and anti-skid operations, 89 special vehicles and 48 road workers were mobilized. In total, 398 tons of anti-skid material were spread.
The authorities remind drivers that the Yellow Code for black ice and icy patches stays in force. According to weather forecasts, during February 5–6, precipitation is expected that may favor fog formation and increase the risk of black ice on roads.
Officials in the field warn that especially at night and in the early morning hours, when temperatures are lower, driving conditions may become difficult. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, adjust their speed to roads’ conditions and follow the authorities’ instructions.
