Winter road conditions across country: continuous interventions by authorities over last 24 hours

Road traffic and citizens’ safety have been ensured through continuous nationwide interventions over the last 24 hours, due to difficult weather conditions that have caused ice and frost, impassable roads and an increased number of emergency calls.

According to the Government, roads are generally passable, but traffic is difficult on certain sections. In Dondușeni and Glodeni districts, seven national roads were reported as impassable. The 112 Service handled over 3,000 emergency calls, of which approximately 170 were related to falls and injuries, and more than 80 were linked to ice, snowbound roads, and road accidents.

During the same period, the Operational Service of the National Road Administration received 37 direct calls from citizens, 49 notifications through the National Public Security Inspectorate, and 68 via the 112 Service. Road maintenance crews intervened to tow and unblock several vehicles and trucks that had become stuck or skidded off the road due to black ice.

The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations received 10 emergency calls, and due to ice and frost, 30 localities in six districts were partially disconnected from the electricity supply. Distribution operators’ teams are working to restore power.

According to the Ministry of Health, 511 trauma-related cases were recorded in the last 24 hours. At the same time, the Police of the Republic of Moldova is closely monitoring the road situation, with over 1,100 officers and nearly 500 vehicles mobilized. The authorities confirm the occurrence of several road accidents resulting in injuries and one fatality.

To support pedestrians, including on sidewalks and at street crossings, the General Inspectorate of Carabinieri of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has also been mobilized. At the same time, the Border Police announces that border crossing points are operating normally, with the exception of the Grimăncăuți crossing point, where activity has been temporarily suspended for technical reasons. Access roads remain passable.

As for air traffic, Eugen Doga International Airport is operating normally, with runways cleared and no obstacles to takeoffs and landings.

The authorities urge citizens to travel with caution, to show solidarity with people in difficulty, and to obtain information exclusively from official sources.
